The purpose of the building is to promote our heritage for the future generations by marketing and developing the handicraft industry. The building creates a place where guests can learn techniques and create products with the help of local craftsmen and women, as well as purchase exquisite and quality handicraft products. The building encourages people to come together and interact with each other, despite the differences that they might have, to build community and transform spaces into a safer and more joyful environment.
The main focus is to use the Maldivian traditional style of housing applied with modern day technologies to create a building design for our generation and society that represents our culture and environment. The Maldivian traditional house is a dwelling with separate elements interrelated with a large compound area which gives the tropical indoor-outdoor lifestyle and most of the daily activities are carried out in the compound under the shade of large trees.
