RESILIENT MASTERPLAN

An alternative method of developing human habitation on island lagoon without reclamation is more appropriate to the island environment and as well as to the people.

The concept of master plan was to maintain the lifestyle of the islanders so that it will be easier for them to adapt and live in a new environment. This was maintained by introducing income generating activities such as farming, aquaculture and local tourism.

S.Hulhumeedhoo, located at the north eastern point of Addu city is the 5th largest island in the Maldives with area of 320 hectares. Half of the island area is occupied by the natural mangrove “mathi kilhi” of the island. Therefore, people of the islanders are facing lack of island space in order to further expand their population on land.
