The settlers were initially living in small dwellings in the island until the british colonization. A movement was brought about during the colonization where the settlers were exposed to newer job opportunities, customs and ideas which led to a change in their lives. After decolonization of british, the settlers were independent, modern and open to different ideas and styles. In the past few years, the islanders are working towards preserving their natural habitat as well as their history.
The purpose of the prototype housing unit is it to prevent our heritage from disappearing by incorporating it in our everyday life.The main focus was to use modern day technologies to create a design for our generation and society that would enhance our lives, environment and as well as represent our history.
